Description

SALAK OR SALA, OR SNAKE FRUITS, HAVING THERE NAME FROM THE SNAKE SKIN LIKE APPEARANCE OF THE OUTER SKIN. THE FRUITS GROW IN CLUSTERS AND HAVE VISIBLE SMALL THORNS, WHICH ARE EASY TO REMOVE AND BRUSHED OFF. EACH FRUITS HAS ONE OR MORE SEEDS WHICH ARE NOT EATABLE. THE PALATABLE FLESH AROUND THE SEED IS SOMEHOW VERY FLAVOR FULL. WITH LOTS OF EXOTIC FLAVOR INTERPRETATIONS.

FRUITS ARE A NICE TREAT WHEN EATEN FRESH. SOMETIMES THE ARE USED IN DRINKS OR ARE COMMERCIALLY MADE INTO A FAVOURITE THAI SIROOP WHICH IS USED HEAVILY IN DESSERTS AND DRINK VARIETIES.

SNAKE FRUITS ORIGIN FROM A LOW GROWING PALM TREE. FROM BLOSSOM TO THE HARVEST THE PALM TREE NEEDS ABOUT 180 DAYS TO MATURE THE RIPE FRUITS.
